The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the biggest change to EU data protection regulation in over 20 years. GDPR is designed to protect individuals from mismanagement of personal information, and it will affect companies of all sectors and sizes, that collect or process data related to EU nationals.
There are two main challenges with GDPR. The first is to become compliant by the set date of May 25, 2018. Once this is achieved, compliance then needs to be managed on an on-going basis. This includes managing any Subject Access, Right to be Forgotten, Right to Stop Processing and Data Portability requests which will arise. Failure to adhere to the regulation could lead to fines of up to €10 million or 2% of an organisation's global turnover (whichever is greater) in case of smaller offences. Those with more serious consequences can have fines of up to €20 million or 4% of an organisation's global turnover (whichever is greater).
Ascent Software has teamed up with IASO Partners, a data specialist CRM and data consultancy with an enviable client list including Argos, British Gas, Habitat and Virgin Trains, to create The GDPR Tool. This tool helps businesses manage the complexity and risk in their efforts to get ready for the May 25, 2018, deadline and manage compliance thereafter.
Since GDPR is a company-wide exercise, the tool is based on a simple, clear dashboard so that non-technical users can understand at a glance how they’re doing against a plan. With only a few clicks of their mouse, they can easily find out what might be holding them up.
Also, since GDPR compliance is about knowing the process, the procedure, and where information is stored, the tool makes it easy to store this information within it. The tool also automatically creates and manages work-flow for accurate management of the new individual rights. It also sends email instructions and reminders to help make sure everything happens on time.
