Ascent Software won the Innovation Exporter of the Year Award at the first-ever Malta International Business Awards organised by TradeMalta.
The winners were announced during a gala dinner on the 10th November at The Radisson Blu Resort in St. Julian’s, in the presence of the Hon. Prime Minister of Malta, Dr Joseph Muscat, the Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, Mr Carmelo Abela, and Mr. David G. Curmi, Chairman of Trade Malta.
The Malta International Business Awards were launched by TradeMalta earlier this year to give due recognition to Malta-based businesses who excel at export and internationalisation. For this inaugural edition, TradeMalta received a total of 38 applications in seven categories. The applications were then short-listed and these companies then had to make presentations to a panel of judges.
The Innovation Exporter of the Year category was for companies that demonstrated that their product or service innovation resulted in a significant increase in export revenue. Since its inception in 2003, Ascent Software has created a succession of software solutions for various customers around the world. These include prestigious brands such as Bosch, the University of Oxford, and Barclays Bank, to name just a few. This has led to an export-oriented software business with over 90% of revenues originating from overseas markets.
In his comments after accepting the award from Mr George Vella, Advisory Services Partner at Grant Thornton, Mr Joseph Sultana, Ascent Software CEO, said that “I am honoured to receive this recognition on behalf of the team at Ascent Software. For more than a decade we have consistently achieved growth through innovation, balancing this with a strong focus on process. We have done this by recruiting the best talent locally and overseas. Today our 80-strong team of software developers works to solve complex problems using the latest technologies and techniques in diverse verticals in the UK, Continental Europe and the US. This Award recognises these achievements and we are honoured to be the first recipients.”
Dr. John Abela, CTO and COO at Ascent Software commented that “Innovation does not happen by chance. It is the result of striving continuously to be at the forefront of emerging and evolving technologies. It is also about ensuring that our people are kept motivated by involving them in challenging and exciting projects in verticals such as aerospace, microbiology, astrophysics, automotive, process optimization, and fintech.”
